"Great experience, nice staff"- N.T. / Google / Nov 21, 2023
"Our experience as a family was beyond exceptional. My oldest son has Sensory Processing Disorder, and my second oldest son has an extreme aversion to the dentist due to an oral issue he was born with. He has had to have a ton of dental work. There is extreme anxiety around dental visits for the two of them. However, MINT made it a breeze. The dental hygienists, Assistants, and Drs. Were all incredibly empathetic and naturally took care of my boys. It was the first time ever I did not have to sit on the same area as they had their teeth cleaned. I was able to have my exam and cleaning at the same time. I felt they were thorough and honest about the whole process, gentle and understanding. The dentist took his time to really talk to my kiddos and help them be confident in their dental hygiene. My teeth feel healthy, and look great too.Truly grateful for the positive experience. My sons wanted to go back the next day, and they kept talking about how they will forever go to Mint for dental care. They now look forward to their exams and cleanings."- A.C. / Google / Nov 12, 2023

MINT dentistry in McKinney, TX offers oral-conscious sedation for both children and adults who have dentophobia (a fear of the dentist). Before you are prescribed a medication for oral-conscious sedation, our team will need to complete a thorough consultation to determine if you are a good candidate. We will go over your medical history, current medications, and other factors to ensure you can safely take an anti-anxiety medication and decide which type will be best for your needs. Oral sedation may not be a good option if you have heart or respiratory problems, you are pregnant, or you had a reaction to benzodiazepines or other anti-anxiety medications.
What to Expect
There's several different options for oral-conscious sedation medication. The type recommended by MINT dentistry will depend on your level of anxiety, your physical health, what procedure is being performed, and the estimated length of your appointment. Your oral-conscious sedation medication will be prescribed during your consultation, so you can have it filled before your procedure. Since you will need to take it before arriving, you should arrange to have a responsible adult take you to your appointment. With light oral-conscious sedation, you will remain relaxed but still awake. With moderate sedation, you will also stay conscious, but your memory of what happened may start to get a bit spotty. You may fall into a light sleep but you should wake up easily. Our dedicated team will go to great lengths to make sure you feel safe and cared for during your procedure.
Side effect and recovery from sedation will depend on what medication was prescribed. You will need to arrange for someone take you home and stay with you for at least 2 – 4 hours while the medication wears off. A MINT dentistry team member or doctor will speak with you about possible side effects from the specific medication prescribed for you. Most commonly, patients experience temporary headaches, dizziness, nausea, or vomiting after oral-conscious sedation. The risk of nausea and vomiting can be reduced by having a light meal before taking the medication and eating a small snack about one hour after your procedure. If you are concerned about symptoms after you have returned home, please don’t hesitate to contact our support staff for assistance.
